Project narrative

On April 11, 2023, the Central African Republic's Ministry of Humanitarian Action, National Solidarity and Reconciliation held a handover ceremony for a Chinese donation of 418 tons of grain to assist local populations struggling with food insecurity. The donation was worth an estimated USD 752,400 (see staff comments). Chinese Ambassador Li Qinfeng and the Minister of Humanitarian Action, Virginie Baïkoua, signed the handover certificate on behalf of their respective governments. Those who attended the ceremony included representatives from the Central African Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Planning, and Bangui Municipal Government.

Staff comments

1. The coded transaction amount assumes the grain donation was of primarily rice and measured in metric tons. The 2023 import price of rice was roughly USD $0.90 per kilogram (according Source ID #204779), which puts the estimated value of the donation at about USD 752,400.
