Project narrative

In 2004, China Metallurgical Group Co. Ltd. signed a development framework agreement with the Papua New Guinea government and foreign partner companies, Highlands Pacific Company Co Ltd and PNG stakeholders Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC), for the development of the Ramu Nickel-Cobalt Project. In 2005, China Metallurgical Group and its partners signed a 'Master Agreement' and an 'Association Agreement' to establish a framework for financing the Ramu Nickel-Cobalt Project. In 2013, MCC Ramu NiCo signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Papua New Guinean Government to continue operating legally in the country. The MoA also obligates the company to provide resources for various social infrastructure projects worth 3 million Kinas in Usino-Bundi and Raicaost areas, the poorest regions in the country: (1) KBK and Inland Landowner Association office in Usino Bundi; (2) Basamuk and ILEG Association Office in Raicoast, (3)Enekwai Police Station in Usino Bundi; (4) Enekwai Health Clinic in Usino Bundi; (5) Ganglau Elementary School in Raincoast; (6) Water and electricity supply to Basamuk in Raicoast; (7) ILEG Health Clinic; (8) Water and electricity supply to Danagari; (9) Usino Elementary School; (10) Water and Electricity Supply to Enekwai; (11) Naru elementary school in Madang. By the end of 2011, all projects were completed.
