Project narrative
Since 1973, the Chinese Government has been dispatching medical teams to Tunisia. The Jiangxi Province is responsible for sending the teams. In December 2020, China sent its 25th medical team to aid Tunisia's general health efforts and efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Work was handed over to the team from China's 24th medical team in January 2021. The medical team consisted of 38 doctors and paramedical staff. According to Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Zhang Jianguo, throughout their 12 month term of service "the Chinese medical mission has provided 30,000 consultation services and participated in 500 emergency consultations, performed 1,500 surgeries and treated 18,000 local patients infected with COVID-19," adding that 5,200 Chinese acupuncture treatments have been performed and 15 Tunisian acupuncturists have been trained by Chinese doctors The 25th medical team completed its term of service in December 2021 and handed over duties to the 26th medical team in January 2022.
