Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In March 2023, PetroChina established two "China Bookshelves" in Cuba. Each "China Bookshelf" ("中国书架") is a curated collection of books, at least some in Spanish, about China and Chinese culture. Between the two locations, approximately 700 books were donated. These bookshelves were installed in or near Havana and are intended to promote cultural understanding and engagement. The project is part of a broader Chinese state-owned initiative that aims to disseminate information about China to foreign audiences, particularly in countries with a Chinese SOE presence. PetroChina reportedly plans to build a total of 10 such bookshelves worldwide.
