Project narrative

In September 2023, the Chinese Government committed to donating solar panels worth $114 million in total to various places in Cuba's Holguín Province. These solar panels were to go to the municipality of Mayari, in the Guaro district, and other municipalities in Holguín Province, including Banes, Sagua de Tánamo, Rafael Freyre, Urbano Noris, Gibara, and Holguín, the provincial capital. The project is currently in the implementation phase. Shanghai Electric is serving as the primary Chinese implementation partner, while Cuba’s state utility, Unión Eléctrica (UNE), is managing local execution.
