Project narrative

On March 8, 2023, the Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) (recorded in Record ID#106113)and the China Manned Space Engineering Office co-announced a painting competition for African youth, including teenagers from Ethiopia, Cote D'Ivoire, Mozambique, Namibia, and Senegal, on the theme of "My Dream". The competition aims to support African youth's interest in outer space exploration and their aspirations to "fly to space". On May 29, 2023, the winners were selected (10 First Prize, 15 Second Prize, 25 Third Prize among all entries). Besides trophies, first-prize winners will be awarded 550 USD, second-prize winners 350 USD and third-prize winners 300 USD. The 10 first place winners would also have their paintings taken by the Shenzhou space vessel to the Tiangong space station at the end of May., and be exhibited on social media platforms to reach a wider audience.
