On August 23, 2023, the Chinese Government awarded Chinese Government Scholarships to about 70 Equatorial Guinean students to pursue university studies and Chinese language training in China. As part of the send-off, the Chinese Embassy in Equatorial Guinea hosted a farewell reception and themed salon at a hotel in Malabo, titled "China–Equatorial Guinea Stories under the Belt and Road." Chargé d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Malabo Ji Denghua and Ella, First Vice Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea and President of the Equatoguinean Alumni Association of Chinese Universities, attended the ceremony and gave speeches. During the event, embassy officials encouraged the students to study diligently, explore China, and return prepared to contribute to Equatorial Guinea’s national development and bilateral cooperation with China. The students watched promotional videos, engaged in discussions on the Belt and Road Initiative, and shared their academic goals and motivations for studying abroad. The students departed for China on August 28, 2023.
