Project narrative

On March 6, 2023, the 24th Chinese medical team arrived in Sierra Leone, succeeding the 23rd team that departed on the same day. The team was welcomed by the Chinese Embassy in a ceremony attended by Ambassador Wang Qing and Sierra Leone's Minister of Health Dr. Austin H. Demby. As of February 2024, the team had provided medical treatment to over 20,000 local patients. The team departed Sierra Leone on March 7, 2024. On April 26, the World Anti-Malaria day, the 24th batch of the Chinese Medical Team administered free malaria tests and dispensed free essential anti-malaria medicines to the people of the Waterloo community. China has been sending medical teams to Sierra Leone since 1973. Since then, according to the Chinese Embassy, the total number of doctors sent has surpassed 500.
