Project narrative

On May 12th 2023, the 22nd Chinese Medical Team from Shanxi province arrived in Djibouti for a one-year mission. The team was made up of 12 doctors from the First People's Hospital of Jinzhong, Second People's Hospital of Jinzhong, and the Jinzhong Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. The team was located at General Peltier Hospital. On June 26, 2024, for the third consecutive year, the team received the Independence Day National award for their service from the Djiboutian Prime Minister. On May 20, 2023, the team returned to China. During their time in Djibouti, the medical team provided over 26,000 outpatient visits, 1,900 surgeries, three training sessions for traditional Chinese medicine with 74 trainees, and six medical consultations including rounds of visits. Since 1981, Shanxi Province has sent medical teams to Djibouti as part of a foreign aid initiative.
