Project narrative

On August 16, 2023, Chinese Ambassador Li Ming handed over a donation of sports training equipment valued at more than USD $320,000 (approximately SBD $2.6 million) to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, who also serves as Minister responsible for the 2023 Pacific Games. The equipment will benefit the 80 Solomon Islands athletes currently training in Panzhihua, Sichuan Province, China, who will use the items upon their return to Solomon Islands as they finalize preparations for the 17th Pacific Games, hosted in Honiara in November 2023. The donation includes gear for seven sports disciplines: boxing, athletics, weightlifting, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, and judo.
