Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 25, 2023, Chinese Ambassador Li Ming handed over a donation of SBD 70,000 to the Western Provincial Government (WPG) in support of the Roviana Lagoon Festival in Gizo, Western Province. The funding was received by WPG Minister of Tourism Ron Ghemu and the ceremony was witnessed by WPG Premier Billy Veo. First held in 2009, the Roviana Lagoon Festival promotes awareness of Roviana cultural heritage, with a particular focus on the Tomoko (traditional war canoe), as well as associated feasts, chants, and dances. The Chinese Embassy described the donation as part of its broader efforts to support cultural preservation and strengthen provincial-level cooperation.
