Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On September 22, 2023, Yunnan Province held a flag-off ceremony to deploy its 23rd Chinese medical team to Uganda. The team is composed of nine specialists drawn from the Third People's Hospital of Yunnan Province, the Yunnan Provincial Infectious Disease Hospital, the Cooperation of Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital of Yunnan Province, and Kunming University of Science and Technology. The team includes professionals trained in general surgery, urology, anesthesiology, otolaryngology, orthopedics, traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture), and infectious diseases. This medical mission is part of an ongoing health cooperation initiative between China and Uganda that began in 1983. With the deployment of the 23rd medical team, China has sent a total of 218 doctors to Uganda. During their service period from September 25, 2023, to September 29, 2024, the team provided extensive clinical services, including 11,507 outpatient and emergency consultations, 378 surgical procedures, 358 anesthesia cases, 3,983 acupuncture treatments, and 15 community outreach rounds and free medical clinics. The team’s deployment was coordinated by Yunnan Provincial authorities in partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Health and local hospital partners.
