Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On November 15, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Uganda awarded scholarships totaling UGX 76 million to students at Makerere University under the Scholarship of Friendship and Academic Excellence program. This initiative, established in 2018, has supported a total of 72 students to date. The Scholarship of Friendship and Academic Excellence was launched to assist socioeconomically disadvantaged yet academically promising students at Makerere University. Each academic year, the Chinese Embassy offers 30 scholarships to continuing students across various colleges within the university. These scholarships are administered by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) at Makerere University. The scholarship covers tuition and functional fees for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal based on academic performance and availability of funds. The selection process emphasizes transparency and integrity, ensuring that the most deserving candidates are chosen. The Chinese Embassy's commitment to supporting Makerere University students underscores the strengthening educational ties between China and Uganda. This collaboration aims to enhance human resource development and foster mutual understanding between the two nations.
