Project narrative

On December 5, 2023, the Chinese Government provided SBD 1.5 million to the Matekolukolu Community in Birao Ward, Kopiu Bay, East Guadalcanal Constituency (EGC) for the construction of a 95-meter-long economic growth center complex. The new facility will house the constituency office, a shopping center, and a meeting venue for the four wards and communities in EGC, among other purposes. This project is funded under the "Rural Sustainable Development Program”(RSDP), a Chinese Government initiative supporting community infrastructure projects to improve the livelihoods of rural populations. The total program funding is US$10 million (approximately SBD 80 million). The project funding agreement was signed jointly with Record ID#107236 on December 5, 2023, for a combined total of SBD 3 million. Each project received SBD 1.5 million.
