Project narrative

On 21 July 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Honiara handed over ten Jiangmen-manufactured motorcycles to three Solomon Islands ministries on behalf of Guangdong Province: the Ministry of Rural Development (4), Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock (3), and Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management & Meteorology (3). The monetary value of the donation is unknown. Permanent Secretary Dr Samson Viulu thanked Guangdong for the “generous and important assistance,” noting the bikes will improve officers’ mobility and service delivery to rural communities. Ambassador Li Ming added that the donation is part of the same Guangdong motorcycle initiative that earlier benefited Honiara City Council (see Record ID#106775) and the Guadalcanal Provincial Government (see Record ID#106978). It will also help the country prepare for the 2023 Pacific Games.
