Project narrative

On June 15, 2023, the Chinese government donated 502 bags of 25-kilogram rice, 100 bags of 12-kilogram rice, 20 boxes of fast noodles, 20 boxes of biscuits, and 50 boxes of flour to the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development in response to Mayon Volcano's eruption on June 12, 2023. The donation was intended for the residents affected by the eruption in the Philippine province of Albay and for those affected by Typhoon Betty in the Cagayan province. The Chinese government will send an additional 3,600 bags of 25-kilogram rice. The total donation is estimated to be worth PHP 4 million. The donations were led by the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian and the Political Commissar of Dalian Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Su Yinsheng, and given to the Philippino Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian. The donation shipment was delivered by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy Training Vessel Qi Jiguang at Pier 15 in South Harbor, Manila.
