Project narrative

On September 13, 2023, the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar and the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration (under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia) jointly launched the “Mandarin Language Training 2023” program for 90 Bali Immigration Officers. The program was hosted by the Confucius Institute for Tourism at Udayana University in Denpasar, Bali. The three-month training course (September 13–November 13 2023) aimed to improve the Chinese language proficiency of Indonesian immigration officers, enhancing their ability to communicate with Chinese tourists and facilitate smoother immigration processing. A total of 90 immigration officers from the Ngurah Rai Class I Special TPI Immigration Office, Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office, Singaraja Class II TPI Immigration Office, and Denpasar Immigration Detention Center participated. According to Director Heru Tjondro, this training program has been running for two years, since 2021, with the current implementation being the third iteration.
