Project narrative

On September 6, 2023, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China signed an MoU with Pakistan. Under the MoU, China would support Pakistan through the provision of 5,000 sets of Solar Home Systems; a set of Integrated Meteorological Observation Stations; and a set of Integrated Cloud-based Early Warning Systems (recorded in Record ID#107293). In addition, China would offer capacity-building programmes for the officials of the Government of Pakistan. On July 18, 2024, in Beijing, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China hosted a training workshop for twenty members of the Pakistan meteorological department, including officials, senior meteorological experts and engineers. The workshop aimed to advise Pakistani technical and management experts in the usage, development and application of the Cloud-based Early Warning Systems and improve technical capabilities in meteorological observation, forecasting and disaster reduction. The MoU would complement Pakistan’s efforts to promote renewable energy and also enhance its disaster management capabilities, especially in the areas of early warning, forecasting, monitoring and disaster preparedness response systems.
