Project narrative

On June 1, 2023, the 26th Chinese (Ningxia) Medical Aid Team to Benin participated in the “China–Africa Hand in Hand, Warming Children's Hearts” initiative at the SOS Children’s Village orphanage in Abomey-Calavi. The event, held in celebration of International Children’s Day, was attended by Chinese Ambassador Peng Jingtao, the First Lady of Benin (representing the Talon Foundation), and officials from Benin’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance. During the event, the medical team provided free medical check-ups to over 120 children and trained more than 20 orphanage staff in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver. They also distributed health kits and wrote individual medical reports for the children. This event was part of the broader mission of the 26th Chinese Medical Team to Benin, which was dispatched on August 3, 2022, for an 18-month term (see Record ID#99553).
