Project narrative

From August 9 to 18, 2023, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce sponsored the 2023 Benin Corn High-Yield Practical Technology Training Course (玉米高产实用技术培训班) at the China–Aid Benin Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center in Sèmè-Podji. Counselor Yan Yan from the Chinese Embassy in Benin and Abdoulaye Toko, Deputy Director of the Minister’s Office for Agriculture, attended the opening ceremony. The program trained 190 Beninese participants, including farmers, agricultural technicians, and Ministry of Agriculture officials in modern corn cultivation techniques, including seed selection, planting density, fertilization, and pest control. The program was implemented by the Longping High-Tech International Training Institute. The training included classroom instruction, field demonstrations, and visits to demonstration plots, providing hands-on experience with high-yield corn production technologies. The event also coincided with broader bilateral initiatives to strengthen corn and soybean development and rural livelihoods in Benin.
