Project narrative

On June 8th, 2023, a groundbreaking ceremony occurred for the Motshegofadiwa Primary School building project in Gauteng Province, South Africa. The Bank of China Johannesburg branch along with African Bank, donated ZAR 4 million to the South African Adopt-A-School Foundation for the project. The funds went to the construction of 5 new classrooms, to replace mud walled classrooms originally built in 1975. Upon completion, additional donations such as teaching equipment and scholarships are anticipated. Adopt-A-School is a partner entity of the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation.

Staff comments

1. AidData makes the assumption that both Bank of China and African bank contributed equally, making Bank of China's contribution 2 million rand.
