Full Description

Project narrative

In 2022, the Government of China provided a $200,000 USD grant to the East African Community for budget support. In receiving the grant, the Council retrospectively adopted a Supplementary Budget of USD 200,000 for the Financial year 2022/23 funded by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to support Capacity building on election observer mission and EAC capacity building activities and forwarded the same to EALA for debate and approval. The money was used to support the EAC's Election Observation Mission (EOC) to Kenya, as well as supporting the training of personnel for the EOC. As of November 2022, the full grant has been disbursed and implemented.

Staff comments

1. The budget support grant was primarily used to support EAC's EOC mission to Kenya, however some of the capital was used for personnel training. AidData therefore codes the recipient as "Africa, regional," since the recipient party was a multilateral institution.
