Project narrative

On October 12, 2023, the Chinese government, in collaboration with the Fisheries State Minister Piyal Nishantha, began Phase 2 of a program providing free kerosene to one-day fishing vessels in Sri Lanka at the Beruwala fishing harbor. The initiative aims to support approximately 28,000 fishermen nationwide, with each receiving 153 liters of kerosene, including more than 450 one-day fishing vessels in the Kalutara District. Phase 2 will approximately distribute 4.25 million liters of kerosene. The program was launched to ease the burden of high fuel costs on local fishermen.
