Project narrative

On January 13, 2023, the Chinese Government and the Government of Gabon signed a $14 million grant agreement for the Omar Bongo Ondimba Senate Rehabilitation Project. The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the Omar Bongo Ondimba Palace -- also known as the Senate Palace -- in the capital city of Libreville. China Electronics Engineering Design Institute Construction Group Ltd. is the contractor responsible for project implementation. On October 27, 2024, the Chinese Government and the Government of Gabon signed a project implementation agreement. Then, the project’s groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 21, 2024. The project was originally scheduled to reach completion within 12 months (May 21, 2025).
