Project narrative

On May 23, 2023, the Chinese government, in coordination with Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Fisheries, began distributing free kerosene to fishermen at Panadura Fishery Port. The initiative provided a total of 29,059 fishing boats across 15 fishery districts including Colombo, Kalutara, Matara, Hambantota, Kalmune, Batticaloa, Mulathivu, Trincomalee, Kilinochchi, Mannaram, Puttalam, Halata and Gampaha, with 1,825,575 liters of kerosene at 75 liters of kerosene to a boat by 96 fuel stations nationwide. The purpose of this project is to support local fishermen through fuel subsidies.
