Project narrative

On March 13, 2023, the Malé City Council inaugurated the smart streetlight project in partnership with China's Yunnan Province, the Chinese Embassy in Malé, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The Chinese government donated and installed 10 smart streetlights spanning from the Artificial Beach to Lonuziyaaraiy Park in Malé. The streetlights are equipped with free Wi-Fi, digital LED screens, speaker systems, CCTV cameras, and environment sensors to detect changes in weather. The ‘Smart Streetlight’ project fell under the ‘Digital Malé City’ project of the city council's strategic action plan in its fourth session.
