Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2016, the Chinese Government pledged to contribute $200 million to the United Nations over a ten year period. The United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) was established to channel these earmarked funds to specific projects in coordination with the UN. The UNPDF is divided into two sub-funds: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund and The Secretary-General's Peace and Security Sub-Fund. Approved in 2021 by UNPDF, USD $813,000 was allocated from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund to enhance the capacity of the national-level actors including UNCTs on the need to integrate environmental dimensions of SDGs in country-level planning and programming processes, leveraging the existing collaborations in key regional and sub-regional fora and frameworks including the UN Sustainable development Cooperation Frameworks. The project will also support countries to develop evidence-based national frameworks and long-term development strategies through conducting sustainability gap assessments and developing dynamic data repository and platform to share project findings. Recipient countries include Botswana, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zambia. The implementing entity is UNEP. Collaborating partners include UNRCOs, UNCTs, African Union Commission, and AUDA-NEPAD. Project duration is scheduled for January 2022 - December 2024.
