Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2008, the Chinese government donated $1 million USD to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to buy 1,336 tons of maize flour from local farmers. On 8 December 2008, Chinese representatives officially handed it over to the Government of Lesotho and 200 different agencies responsible for distributing it to vulnerable Basotho over the next three months. This donation is a response to the then on-going famine caused by drought and rising grain prices.
