Project narrative

In 2016, the Chinese Government pledged to contribute $200 million to the United Nations over a ten year period. The United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) was established to channel these earmarked funds to specific projects in coordination with the UN. The UNPDF is divided into two sub-funds: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund and The Secretary-General's Peace and Security Sub-Fund. Approved in 2023 by the UNPDF, USD $548,161 was allocated from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund to strengthen the capacity of Member States to monitor and accelerate implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) and the 2030 Agenda. The project addresses persistent barriers to gender equality, including stagnant labor force participation gaps, unequal unpaid care burdens, gender-based violence, entrenched social norms, and limited women’s leadership. Objectives include supporting Member States in conducting national-level progress reviews in consultation with civil society, organizing regional forums for sharing good practices, and preparing a comprehensive Secretary-General’s report assessing progress, gaps, and effective strategies at all levels. The project is implemented by UN Women in collaboration with UNECA, UNECE, UNESCWA, UNESCAP, UNECLAC, academia, and civil society organizations. Its scheduled duration is from May 2024 to November 2025.
