Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On August 2, 2010, the Chinese Government provided a $12,264,851.49 loan to the Kenyan Government for the refurbishment of the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, a suburb of Nairobi. An Exchange of Letters for Maintenance of the Moi International Sport Center was signed during H.E. President Hu Jintao’s visit to Kenya in April 2006. Sheng-Li Engineering Construction Company Ltd. ((胜利油田胜建集团) was the contractor. The project's original timeline was for construction to last 12 months from December 24, 2009, to December 23, 2010, but Sheng-Li Engineering Construction Company Ltd. extended work until June 2012. The stadium was closed in January 2010 for renovation works. On June 2, 2012, the Moi International Sports Centre reopened.

Staff comments

1. This project is also known as Phase 2 of the Moi International Sports Centre Renovation Project. The Chinese project title is 我援肯莫伊国际体育中心二期维修项目 or 肯莫伊国际体育中心二期维修项目. 2. A $2,739,876 grant was provided by China's Ministry of Commerce in August 2010 for the same project (as captured via Record ID#60195). 3. AidData assumes that the loan that was issued was an interest-free loan from MOFCOM since the loan was issued alongside a MOFCOM grant. 4. The Moi International Sports Centre was originally built with RMB 200 million in grant funding from the Chinese government for the All Africa Games in 1987.
