Description

In 2009, the Chinese government offered scholarships to the children of nine powerful officials in Namibia, including the daughter of Namibia's president, Hifikepunye Pohamba. Two young relatives of Namibia's former president and national Patriarch Sam Nujoma also received grants. There was an abundance of controversy surrounding the scholarships. It is unclear if the students ever left for China to study and may have withdrawn from accepting the scholarships.
