Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2001, a stampede occurred during a football match at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana between rivals Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, resulting in the deaths of 126 fans. During a visit to Ghana, Xu Jialu—leader of the Chinese delegation and Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress—pledged GHC 25 million to the stadium disaster fund on May 23, 2001. It is unclear how the funds were used. The project appears to be untied.
