Description

In 2001, the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana experienced a stampede between rivals Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. 126 football fans perished. During a visit to Ghana, Xu Jialu, leader of the Chinese delegation and vice chairman of the funding committee of the National People's Congress, pledged 25 million GHC to the stadium-disaster fund on May 23, 2001. It is unclear how the funds were used. The project appears to be untied.
