Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 26, 2006, China and Nigeria signed an agreement for a CNY 5 million grant for anti-malaria drugs, training for Nigerians to control malaria and bird flu, and co-operation in technology. According to Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Edmund Daukoru, this grant was decided upon to reciprocate Nigeria and China's formalization of four oil block contracts, which include the maintenance and management of the Kaduna refinery and setting up a power generation station. The status of this grant is uncertain. In November 2007, the handover ceremony of the Chinese government's assistance to the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources for the prevention and control of bird flue was held in Abuja, Nigeria. This was the second donation from the Chinese government: they had donated 429,000 boxes of anti-malarial drugs and 100,000 anti-malarial injections to the Nigerian Ministry of Health, which worth about RMB5 million.
