Full Description

Project narrative

On 15 February 2009 during Chinese President Hu Jintao official visit to Tanzania, government officials signed a 150 million RMB (equal to about $21.95 million USD) grant agreement for multiple development projects. Of this total amount, $4.4 million USD was allocated towards rehabilitating Zanzibar's State Broadcasting and TV programs (or 援桑给巴尔广电节目落地项目 or 援桑广电落地项目). This project is financed by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. China's State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television helped implement the project and Guangdong International Construction Group Corporation was responsible installation. This project involved construction of a transmission tower in Zanzibar as well as the installation of satellite, TV, and FM radio systems. Works began on 26 November 2009, were complete by May 25, 2010, and officially handed over on August 10, 2010. The 99.7 MHZ radio station broadcasts China Radio International (CRI) content and the Channel 34 channel broadcasts China Global Television Network (CGTN) content.
