Description
In 2006, the Chinese Government pledged to build two rural schools in the eastern city of Kisangani. The Congolese authorities initially agreed to level the ground and provide electricity and water, but they had trouble doing so, and the Chinese Government signed an agreement in February 2009 to undertake these activities as well. Weihai International Economic & Technical Cooperative Co., Ltd (WIETC) was the contractor responsible for implementation. Construction began on April 1, 2009, and ended on October 27, 2009. According to the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Aid Management Platform (AMP), the Chinese Government committed $2,196,997.436 of grant funding for the construction of these schools and for the construction of a school in Kinshasa (recorded in the linked project #19114). The AMP also indicates that the Chinese Government almost fully disbursed this amount in 2009, as $2,196,193.27 was disbursed. The funding for these projects is recorded in the umbrella project #85305. The French project title is Construction d'une école rurale à Kinshasa et deux à Kisangani. The Chinese project title is 援刚果(金)两所农村小学校项目.
