Project narrative

In 2009, the Chinese government granted RMB 66 million (USD $8.2 million) grant the Government of Djibouti for the Arta Hospital Construction Project (other project names: 阿尔塔医院科研中心 or 中国援吉阿尔塔医院启 or Hôpital Régional d'Arta or La première pierre du nouvel hôpital régional d'Arta) {{See: source ID 112721}}. This grant covered all construction and equipment costs. The construction of this 128-bed hospital included four buildings, seven departments (including maternity, surgery, and cardiology), and an emergency room. On 2 April, 2009, Chinese and Djibouti officials signed the cooperation agreement for this project. China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic & Technical Cooperation was the contractor responsible for project implementation. The survey and design unit of this project was Gansu Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute, and the construction supervision unit was Shenyang Engineering Supervision Consulting Co., Ltd. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 11 June 2009 and the official handover ceremony was held on 26 October 2011. It was opened for public use on 18 October 2012.
