Project narrative

On August 1, 2003, the Chinese Government provided a USD 10 million loan to the Government of Sudan for the purchase of pumps, irrigation equipment, and generators. Part of the loan funds were also earmarked for the construction of a workshop to maintain the equipment. Additionally, loan proceeds would partially finance a USD 11 million commercial contract signed on August 8, 2003 with Boshan Pump Industry Co., Ltd (also known as Shandong Sure Boshan Pump Industry Co., Ltd.). The loan carried a four-year maturity, one-year grace period, and an interest rate of 3.5%. Repayment was scheduled to begin on September 1, 2004.
