On 14 April 2008, the China Urban Construction Design and Research Institute's Overseas Project Department and the Sudan Federal Ministry of Health signed a design contract for this hospital. were the main contractors responsible for implementation. Qingjian Group and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) built the hospital. China National Pharmaceutical Foreign Trade Corporation also provided and installed medical equipment for the hospital. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on 30 August 2009, and the hospital was handed over to the Sudanese government on 29 September 2011. Then, on 12 July 2012 Sudan's Vice President, Ali Osman Mohammed Taha, officially inaugurated the Sudanese Chinese Friendship Hospital in Blue Nile State.
