Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2012, the Chinese Government donated 1.46 billion CFA francs to the Government of Cameroon to be used in the construction of a solar street lighting system. This project entails the installation of 3 types of solar street lights with 409 sets of solar street lights for the 10 km road from downtown Yaounde to the second university of Yaounde and the campus of the second university of Yaounde. On June 6, 2012, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy of Cameroon reached an agreement on a solar energy demonstration project and signed the project design plan and external implementation contract in Yaoundé. The solar energy demonstration project is one of the projects under the framework of the “New Eight Initiatives” for Africa proposed by the 2009 Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The project will be implemented by Huawei Technologies Company, which plans on beginning the project in the capital Yaounde before moving to more rural areas. On September 26, 2013, Huawei held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project, which sought to install 409 solar street lights in Yaounde and at a university. This project was completed on January 21, 2014.
