Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2010, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Amb. James Gbeho reported that China promised to support Guinea-Bissau with 10 million EUR. This increased the total funding support available to fund the Defence and Security Sector Reform Programme (DSSRP) for Guinea-Bissau to 42 million EUR. This is half of the estimated amount needed to implement the DSSRP. The United Nations and the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council have pursued the implementation of the Defence and Security Sector Reform Programme (DSSRP) to increase political stability, improve professionalism in government, and increase deference to civil authority among the armed services in Guinea-Bissau.
