Project narrative

In September 2013, the Somali Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Somalia Fawsiya Yusuf Haji Aden and the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Liu Guangyuan signed a grant cooperation agreement in Mogadishu for China to rebuild the National Theater. The agreement outlines a five year recovery plan, including rebuilding a mother and child health hospital (Record ID#31067), the Mogadishu Stadium (Record ID#31068) and a road between Galkayo and Burao (Record ID#31070) in addition to the theater. The theater reopened on July 1, 2020, with support from China.

Staff comments

No indication that this project has been embarked on. The original National Theater was also built by China between 1960s and 1980s.
