In June 2013, daily newspaper Noticias reported that the Mozambican and Chinese governments will collaborate on a 150 million meticais ($5 million) project to build a cashew research center in Nassuruma. The center will carry out research into increasing the production and productivity of cashew, and hold field trials on soils, propagation, biotechnology, plant pathology and protection, agro-processing and the transfer of technology to small scale producers. According to a December report, the center’s installation would initially have support from specialists form Tanzania.
