Project narrative

In 2009, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and China Radio International Broadcasting Confucius Institute established the Confucius Classroom at CRI in Sfax, Tunisia. The classroom was also established by the Tunisia-China Friendship CRI Audience Club and the Universal House "Sfax". It was the first Confucius Classroom established by the CRI Broadcasting Confucius Institute in the Arab world. The classroom was designed to use radio to help Tunisians learn the Chinese language. The Confucius Classroom was inaugurated on September 12, 2009. At the inauguration of the Confucius Classroom, the Chinese Embassy to Tunisia donated books and CDs to the Confucius Classroom, as captured by linked Record ID#31221.

Staff comments

The Chinese name for the Confucius Classroom is 突尼斯斯法克斯CRI广播孔子课堂. According to Hanban's website ("Confucius Classroom at CRI in Sfax"), the agreement for the Confucius Classroom was signed on November 4, 2009. However, it is clear that the classroom was formally inaugurated before this point.
