On January 17, 2013 an agreement was signed for the establishment of a Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam. The Chinese governmental organization responsible for this project is Hanban. The value of this project is unknown. The Chinese institution that was paired with the University of Dar es Salaam for this project is Zhejiang Normal University. This project was completed in 2013 and the institute began operating October 9, 2013. The institute offers courses in Chinese, summer camps, kung fu and taiji classes and Chinese culture events. The Confucius Institute was later renovated in 2016 and moved to the new China-funded library (#60628)
