Project narrative
At the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in November 2006, the Chinese Government pledged to construct a malaria prevention and treatment center in Burundi. Then, on October 12, 2007, China's Ambassador to Burundi signed an exchange of letters on the establishment of a China-Burundi Malaria Control Center. The opening ceremony for the Center was held on March 27, 2008. The China-Burundi Malaria Control Center is located at the Institut National de Santé Publique (INSP) in Bujumbura. At least 5 Chinese experts were deployed to support the work of the Center. According to the Government of Burundi's Development Assistance Database (DAD), the Chinese Government disbursed $439,811 of grant funding in support of this project.
