Project narrative

October 4, 2010 Chinese corporation ZTE Corporation of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Information Communications Technology Development Authority (NiDA) confirming its participation in Cambodia's Economic Acceleration Platform (CEAP) project. The project aims to assist Cambodia to enhance its IT sector to facilitate the Cambodian government's administrative work and trade. China’s ZTE Corporation will install optic cables to provide greater internet access in rural areas, allowing the locals to learn more through E-education and E-health, as well as facilitating the government in communicating with the provincial and local levels. ZTE will also provide IT support to the Cambodian government. As of 18 June 2015, the proposed optic cables have been installed and are up and running, but the extent of ZTE's involvement in financing remains unknown. No details are give on whether ZTE's participation in the CEAP project is a form of free-standing technical assistance to the Cambodian government or whether their services were contracted.
