Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On November 11, 2006, the Chinese Government and the Government of Egypt signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), which committed RMB 50 million of grant funding for the Fishery and Aquaculture Center Construction Project and the Freedom Experimental School Construction Project (see Record ID#58829). China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) subsequently approved an RMB 35 million grant for the Fishery and Aquaculture Center Construction Project and drew the grant proceeds from the November 11, 2006 ETCA. This project involved the construction of a Fishery and Aquaculture Center (معهد الإستزراع السمكي وتكنولوجيا الاسماك) at Suez Canal University. The center occupies 4540 square meters and it includes a teaching and training center, a laboratory building, seed incubation center, and bait cultivation workshop. It is located on Suez Canal University's old campus. In total the Fishery and Aquaculture Center occupies 4540 square meters. China's Fishing Engineering Institute, a research department of China's Ministry of Agriculture, was responsible for project design. Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co. and Xinjiang International Economic Cooperation Corporation were the contractors responsible for project implementation. The project was constructed in two phases and it involved technical guidance from China's Fisheries Engineering Institute. A groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 16, 2011. Then, on November 6, 2012, the construction of the center was completed after passing a final MOFCOM inspection. The center is now called the Fish Farming and Technology Institute and it officially opened in May 2014.
