Project narrative

On March 27, 2006, the Chinese Government and the Government of Tunisia signed an exchange of letters for the Textile Training Project. The project came out amidst the expiration of the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing, which allowed Chinese textile exports to pressure Tunisia's textile and garment industry, a pillar of the Tunisian economy. The Chinese Government, wishing to avoid the negative consequences of this development, agreed to invite 25 Tunisian management and teaching personnel to attend a 21-day seminar in China. It also sent 4 Chinese knitting, printing, and dyeing experts to Tunisia to provide 6-month technical guidance to the teachers of the Tunisian Vocational Training Agency. The project began in July 2006 and was completed at the end of 2007. The project handover certificated was signed on March 17, 2008. A total of 127 Tunisian personnel were trained. The project handover certificate was signed on March 17, 2008.
