Project narrative

On March 29, 2009, the Chinese Government agreed to provide an RMB 70 million grant for the Nouakchott Friendship Hospital Construction Project. This project involved the construction of a hospital in a populous slum with Arafat district in the southern part of the capital city of Nouakchott. The hospital, with a total floor area of 7,410.2 square meters, has 88 beds and a variety of departments, including clinic service, emergency treatment, operation rooms, X-ray section, clinical laboratory, and inpatient departments. The No.1 building has two floors, and the other buildings have a single floor. The buildings are capable of resisting magnitude 7 earthquakes and second-grade fires. China Geo-Engineering Corporation International Ltd. (CGC) was the contractor responsible for implementation, Construction began on May 30, 2009, and ended on November 7, 2010. Then, in 2017, the Chinese government committed funding for the renovation of the Nouakchott Friendship Hospital (see Record ID#56930).
